1. Erika Kirk Seeks Speedy Trial In Tyler Robinson Murder Case
Utah Judge Tony Graf is set to decide when the trial will begin for Tyler Robinson, who has been charged with the murder of Charlie Kirk, with prosecutors proposing an early 2028 start and defense attorneys seeking to delay until 2029, as both sides cite thousands of pieces of evidence and millions of messages and bits of data that the defense has used as grounds for repeated delays.
Charlie Kirk was killed over one year ago on the campus of Utah Valley University while speaking to students during a campus tour with Turning Point USA, the non-profit he founded, and a preliminary hearing convened in July, which takes the place of a grand jury in Utah, established probable cause and bound Robinson over for trial.
Erika Kirk, Charlie Kirk’s widow and the mother of his two young children, filed the “Victims Motion to Enforce the Right to a Speedy Disposition and Response to Proposed Trial Schedules,” individually and on behalf of her minor children, asking the court to reject the defense’s tentative third-quarter trial target and set trial for the earliest practicable date in 2027, no later than the government’s proposed date of October 4, 2027.
The motion states that the defense schedule would place the trial more than four years after Robinson’s arrest and more than three years after the week-long preliminary hearing, that the Kirk children, aged three and one at the time of the murder, would be seven and five by the time of a verdict, that the defense’s reliance on the overwhelming amount of evidence as grounds for delay has no legal basis, and that Utah law requires victims’ interests to receive actual weight in setting trial.
2. Former FBI Officials Arrested For Lying To Congress About Hunter Biden Investigations
FBI Director Kash Patel announced on X that former senior FBI officials Nikki Cole Floris and Bradley Benavides were taken into custody on Friday on charges of allegedly lying to Congress about their involvement in the FBI’s investigations into Hunter Biden, with the charges stemming from an ongoing investigation into the since-dissolved FBI Foreign Influence Task Force.
Floris led the Foreign Influence Task Force as a Deputy Assistant Director from mid-2019 through mid-2022, and Benavides served as its Section Chief from mid-2019 through the 2020 election, with both testifying that the task force was not involved in the Hunter Biden investigations, testimony that Patel stated is contradicted by documentary evidence, contemporaneous communications, and witness accounts, while Floris is on record privately claiming to be “running a shadow government” during the 2020 election.
US Attorney for Washington DC Jeanine Pirro stated that Floris, 46, and Benavides, 56, surrendered on arrest warrants after being charged with lying to Congress about their roles on the task force during the 2020 election, with one of them claiming to have learned about the Hunter Biden investigations only from Wikipedia despite evidence showing their involvement in helping shape the public narrative about Hunter Biden’s laptop right before the election.
A source familiar with the investigation told the New York Post that the charges stem from interviews the former FBI agents gave to the House Judiciary Committee in 2023, while Pirro stated that the action makes clear no one is above the law and that authorities will hold accountable all who obstruct the truth.
3. Melania Trump Secures Russia-Ukraine Ceasefire In Oleshky For Humanitarian Aid And Evacuation
First Lady Melania Trump secured a ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine in the city of Oleshky, set to begin on October 29, to allow the passage of humanitarian aid and to prepare a thoroughfare for civilian evacuation.
Melania Trump stated that Oleshky is a front-line war city on the brink of disaster, with a remaining population composed primarily of elderly residents urgently needing medical attention, medicine, food, and clean water, while residents live with limited electricity, mined roads, and regular military attacks, and she stated that without her intervention bringing in aid and evacuating the elderly would have been impossible.
Oleshky is located in southern Ukraine and has been occupied by Russia, with food and supplies scarce for months, no electricity or running water, and roads scattered with burned-out cars per the AP, while the First Lady’s team worked with Russian and Ukrainian leadership to determine the ceasefire terms and secured an impartial American media organization to accompany and document Russian and Ukrainian teams on the ground to ensure the wishes of each family are respected.
President Donald Trump, asked by reporters whether the First Lady would take part in trilateral peace talks, said she would not but called it not the worst idea he had heard, stated that her focus is saving children, and said both sides were cooperating with her on an initiative both sides wanted, as Melania Trump has made helping children in conflicts a central issue of her time in the White House and has written to Russian President Vladimir Putin about reuniting families with their children.
FINAL WORD
Erika Kirk is fighting to get Charlie Kirk’s accused killer into a courtroom without years of delay, while Kash Patel and Jeanine Pirro have moved against two former senior FBI officials accused of lying to Congress about Hunter Biden. Overseas, Melania Trump got Russia and Ukraine to stop fighting in Oleshky long enough to bring in aid and get elderly residents out. From a Utah courtroom to the front line in Ukraine, the right wing is pushing for action instead of excuses.
