1. Shooting At White House Correspondents' Dinner In Washington, DC
At around 8:30 PM ET at the Washington Hilton Hotel in Washington, DC, Cole Thomas Allen, age 31 from California, rushed past metal detectors and attempted to enter the White House Correspondents' Dinner where President Trump and senior administration officials were present.
Gunfire erupted in the lobby area after the suspect rushed a security checkpoint, prompting Secret Service agents in tactical gear to enter, shield President Trump, and evacuate attendees as individuals inside the ballroom and surrounding corridors dropped to the floor and took cover.
A Secret Service officer was struck in a ballistic vest during the incident, and the suspect, who had been staying at the Washington Hilton, was quickly subdued by law enforcement near the escalator area close to the checkpoint.
Witnesses reported hearing an initial loud pop followed by multiple gunshots within seconds, after which law enforcement secured the scene, confirmed no attendees were injured, and detained the suspect, who faces charges including attempted assassination of the President of the United States and firearm-related offenses.
